Volunteer with us!

Are you passionate about orangutans?

Do you want to help us save orangutans by volunteering here in the UK?

How about donating your time and talent by joining our dedicated volunteer team? Regardless of your skill level, we are always in need of people to help in our life-saving mission to save orangutans and their dwindling habitat.

Our Vision and Mission

Our vision is to restore the natural balance for Bornean orangutans. Their survival is at risk solely due to human impact, pushing them to the brink of extinction.

Thus our mission is two-fold. First, we save orangutans in immediate danger through rescue, rehabilitation, and re-introduction to protected rainforests. Second, and equally important, we protect and restore their wild habitat by working alongside the native communities bordering them.

Have questions? Here are answers to our most frequently asked questions:

Q. How do I volunteer with BOS-UK?
A. Well, you found the right place to do this. After reading through our structured volunteer positions you can complete our Volunteer Interest Form and someone will be in touch with you. Be patient once you apply as it mught take a week or so for us to get back with you. Additionally, if you have other ideas or have specific skills sets you would like to offer please email us at enquiry@bos-uk.org and let’s chat!

Q. I want to volunteer directly with orangutans, how do I do that?
A. Orangutans natural habitat is Southeast Asia, so we are very glad to say that we don't have any orangutans here in the UK. All of our orangutans in our care are at our centre's in Borneo, Indonesia. You can visit one of our centre's, but due to a variety of reasons we do not allow direct contact with the orangutans. Mainly this is for thier protection and safety. If you want to visit you can learn more about our voluntourism program here run by BOS Australia.

Q. If I don't live near London can I still volunteer?
A. AB-SO-LU-TE-LY! Although a few of our volunteer positions are based out of our office in London we need volunteers across the country to help us spread our message to all the corners of the UK (and even internationally)! You can help in regional events, help with talks, do tasks that are remote in nature, or hold a fundraisier for us - just to name a few!

Q. Do I have to be a certain age to volunteer?
A. Short answer is NO, but for unsupervised work we require volunteers to be at least 18 years of age, but with parental permission people between 14-18 can volunteer with other skilled staff of volunteers. Under 14 requires a parent or legal guardian with them at all times. we love having the passion of children at our events!

Q. What type of time commitment does volunteering require?
A. Our volunteer positions vary widely in their time commitment. Some only require a few hours, while other have a more regular time commitment. Each position description lists the requested time commitments. If you have limited time availbilty that is ok, we can still use you. More important to us is that you are dependable when you do sign up for events so we aren't scrabling for replacements. We all have unexpected items come up that requires us to cancel commimtments, and we fully understand that.

Q. I have another question not listed, how do I contact you?
A. We are more than happy to answer any and all questions you have. Please email us at enquiry@bos-uk.org and we will get back to you. Please do give us a few days to respond as we do tend to get busy and can't always get right back with you.
